Allure announces big changes with Danny Allen as the new publisher

Danny Allen has replaced Seamus Byrne as the publisher at Allure Media, and has revealed a new editorial lineup of top Australian journalists at Kotaku.

The site’s established editor Mark Serrels remains at the helm, while Logan Booker (founding editor of Kotaku Australia and former editor of Atomic) is the new weekend editor and Tracey Lien (HYPER and Good Game journalist and 2010 Walkley Awards Student Journalist of the Year recipient) is on board as the new associate editor.

Serrels told MCV: "At Kotaku we’ve been carefully trying to build a reputation for creating the strongest, most engaging content surrounding games and gaming culture and Tracey fits perfectly into that mould."

"She’ll be working as an Associate Editor, but really I’m hoping we’ll push each other and try and outdo ourselves, pushing Kotaku to even greater heights."

Lien added: "Being a site that covers gaming culture, I can write about the latest releases if I want to, but there’s also room for me to write long-form features that look into the human and business sides of video games."

"I’m free (and am encouraged) to do the kind of journalism and reporting I’m most interested in."

Booker was recently a writer at Melbourne’s Firemint Studios, and has returned to editorial after a 3 year absence.

Booker says: "I wanted to get back into writing while having the flexibility to work on my own projects, and the weekend editor role was a perfect fit. Ultimately, I want to get stuck into independent games development. I realised if I was going to get serious, work had to fit around that and not the other way round."

Allen was promoted to publisher at Allure from his editor role at Gizmodo Australia, and has previously written for PC World and GamePro. He says his new ‘all-star’ lineup of Aussie journalists will allow Kotaku Australia to produce quality local content.
