“The Nintendo Wii is this year’s must have Christmas present, but stock is limited so we expect a massive response when we get pre-orders underway on November 21st," said Amazon’s console and video games manager James Schall.
“Here at Amazon.co.uk we decided not to provide the opportunity to pre-order until we knew exactly how many of the consoles we had available. The last thing we wanted to do was take pre-orders that we couldn’t fulfil as we believe that represents a bad customer experience. As a result, we are only taking pre-orders for units that Nintendo has confirmed will be provided to us for launch day.
“We do expect the demand to clear out initial stocks before the console is even available but rest assured more will be on the way and we will keep our customers up to date as soon as new Nintendo Wii stock is available.”
The announcement from Amazon comes just days after online rival Play.com was forced to send out an email to hundreds of customers explaining that they would not be able to supply them with the Wii at launch. The Jersey-based entertainment store began its pre-order campaign several months ago.
