Amazon Fire TV pre-orders open in the UK

The latest entrant in the Android console sector, Amazon Fire TV, is now available to pre-order in the UK.

The microconsole costs 79, although Amazon Prime members are able to buy it for 49 until Monday September 8th. It will actually be released on October 23rd.

For the money buyers get the unit itself and a remote control. The optional Game Controller accessory costs an additional 34.99.

Amazon currently lists 487 games and apps as being available for the device, 340 of which are games. It also offers a range of streaming media apps such as Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and of course Amazon Prime Instant Video.

A new feature called ASAP also predicts what films and TV you will likely want to watch and queues them up for instant streaming.

Fire TV has voice search that actually works,” the retailer claims. The old way of searching with a TV remote – scrolling and clicking one letter at a time on an alphabet grid – is painful. With Fire TV you simply speak the title, actor or genre into the remote and you’re done.”
