Analyst: Microsoft to buy Nokia smartphone division

Analyst: Microsoft to buy Nokia smartphone division

According to analyst Eldar Murtazin, Microsoft is likely to buy out struggling Nokia's entire smartphone division.

Murtazin, a prominent blogger, claimed to have inside knowledge of the deal, stating that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was slated to meet with Stephen Elop to complete the deal.

Whil Nokia are still denying the rumour, claiming that the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia around the Windows Phone is their core focus.

Murtazin, however, has gained some traction with his assertions.

His controversial initial tweet read: "Steve Ballmer, Andy Lees and Stephen Elop and Kai Ostamo will meet in Las Vegas to finalize agreement about Nokia smartphone unit. Bye, Nokia."

Microsoft has been aggressive in its continued push with the Windows Phone, and while acquisitions to bolster the platform make sense, there is still no official word on whether or not Murtazin's information is correct.
