Analyst says MS is concerned about PS3 tech advantage

An analyst has backed up the claims by Sony exec Rob Dyer that Microsoft’s strategic decisions are currently designed to protect what is being regarded as the technological disadvantage being suffered by Xbox 360.

Dyer said last week that I think what [Xbox European boss] Chris Lewis and the other representatives at Microsoft are doing is protecting an inferior technology”.

Now DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole has told IndustryGamers that he believes Microsoft is concerned by the raw power advantage the PS3 has over Xbox 360.

"My take is that video game console manufacturers have always been closed systems and there is a tendency for the manufacturer to protect its edge as aggressively as possible,” he explained.

Both Sony and Nintendo have taken aggressive policies to protect their market lead against would be up-and-comers.In the case of the Xbox 360 it is an older system and clearly there are concerns about content looking better on the PS3.

"But at the end of the day the market will decide. If good content starts showing up on the PS3 but not on the Xbox 360, consumers are likely to balk.So it is really a balancing act for Microsoft."
