And so it begins – Ubisoft to release Ghost Recon Online on Steam Early Access

And then the industry realised that there’s a ton of money to be made by releasing unfinished games.

The colossal success of DayZ, Rust and many others on Steam Early Access has caught the attention of traditional publishing, with Ubisoft announcing plans to release Ghost Recon Online on the service.

The game is already available elsewhere but is still in active development at Ubisoft Singapore. A Steam Early Access is available in Canada now and will rollout worldwide in the spring.

"Bringing Ghost Recon Online to Steam has been our goal since the game’s inception," Ubisoft producer Corey Facteau stated. "We took the time necessary to reach a quality level that can go head to head with the best online games available today before releasing on Steam.

As the top shooter for gamers who enjoy team gameplay, we have also seen our audience expand to include MOBA fans, who comprise fifty per cent of our user base. To ensure a seamless transition to the new platform, we will use Early Access to fine tune the Ghost Recon Online experience before releasing it to the rest of the world."
