Apple suing Amazon.com

As many had expected, Apple is suing retailer Amazon.com over its use of the term ‘App Store’ to describe its new Android digital app portal.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is seeking both to prevent the use of the term and for unspecified damages. The complaint was filed on March 18th.

Amazon has begun improperly using Apple’s App Store mark in connection with Amazon’s mobile-software developer program,” it reads.

Amazon has unlawfully used the App Store mark to solicit software developers throughout the United States. We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the App Store name because it will confuse and mislead customers.”

Apple is currently in the process of trying to patent ‘App Store’ as a trademark in the US, though the campaign has been met with opposition from rivals such as Microsoft.

Amazon’s App Store is due to go live today, complete with an Android exclusivity deal for Angry Birds Rio.
