Argos in biggest ever games push

In a warning shot to his retail rivals, trading manager for gaming and photographic lines Scott Lynch told MCV that Argos plans to make a huge impact in the games space this year.

“Over the last few years we have significantly increased the amount of space we give to gaming and 2006 has been no exception,” said Lynch. “This year we have increased the space for gaming by 20 per cent. This allows us to continue to support the mature formats whilst also allowing us to focus on new formats and next-gen consoles, software and peripherals.”

And while progress is certainly being made in the games sector, Lynch stresses that there is much more to come from Argos.

“We are becoming a more important destination for gamers looking to buy hardware, software and peripherals, but we recognise the huge potential that still exists. We will continue to fully support the gaming category through various marketing campaigns.

“We are very much looking forward to a strong Christmas 2006 with the gaming category,” added Lynch. “We expect to see good sales across all of the formats we are stocking and we can see from the number of customers that are registering at our website for details about Playstation3 and Wii that the demand for these consoles will be huge.”
