Ashes Cricket 2013 is set to feature dynamic changes to weather and pitch conditions, as well as 360-degree shot selection while batting, publisher 505 Games has revealed.
From green, seaming wickets on day one to deteriorating day-five pitches, playing surfaces are set to change over the course of play, affecting gameplay realistically through effects on bounce and spin.
Similarly, weather forecasts will also change over the course of a match. From overcast conditions that assist swing bowlers to sunny days that suit the batsman, weather too will have an impact on gameplay.
Ashes Cricket 2013 is being built on a new game engine, which now allows 360-degree control over shot selection and a batting mechanic that lays an emphasis on placement and timing.
On the bowling side, Ashes promises a new line and length bowling system [that] gives bowlers the tools to set plans for batsmen throughout a day’s play”. You’re also free to set your field as you’d like if you’re not happy with the game’s automatic field settings.
This game has been created with real cricket fans and players in mind. The new engine allows players to mimic a cricketer’s most important attribute, his technique,” says Ralph Pitt-Stanley, general manager for UK and export at 505 Games.
Players will, of course, be able to play through the fully licensed Ashes test series between England and Australia, but the game will also feature other teams and limited over formats with leagues and tournaments. There’s no word yet on whether the game will feature licenses for any other teams.
While we still await the game’s first screenshot and trailer, game producer Jamie Firth recently revealed via the Ashes Cricket 2013 podcast that the game will not support motion controls.
Ashes Cricket 2013 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U on 21st June 2013.
