Ashes video game can create new cricket fans

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) believes next year’s Ashes Cricket game will draw more fans into the sport.

The game is being brought to market by 505 Games. The last Ashes Cricket title, from Codemasters, was a surprise hit in the summer of 2009.

The Ashes is a popular series of test match cricket, which pitches Australia against England.

John Perera, Commercial Director ECB said: “The ECB is committed to bringing new fans into the sport, and the Ashes Cricket 2013 game will do just that in conjunction with the real thing. Most of the England side are keen gamers, and will no doubt be spending a lot of time playing it whilst preparing for the real thing.”

Ashes Cricket 2013 will launch for consoles and PC next summer. It is being developed by Trickstar Games.

“2013 is another big year for International Cricket and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Ashes,” added 505 Games’ UK boss Ralph Pitt-Stanley.
