Atari sticks with Europe despite studio shake-up

Publisher Atari says it is still committed to Europe despite putting its biggest EU asset, French studio Eden Games, up for sale.

The company said in a financial statement it has put the developer’s assets on the market, and will instead focus on mobile and digital.

Atari has appointed former Gameloft global business development manager Olivier Rameil (pictured) as European sales and marketing director. He will help grow mobile and online games on platforms such as Xbox Live in Europe.

The news comes after Atari laid off one full-time employee in its European division.

Rameil told MCV: “Atari’s shift in strategy to mobile gaming represents an incredible opportunity to bring great new games based on some legendary intellectual properties to a contemporary audience.

“The company has already achieved demonstrated success in the US mobile market with Atari’s Greatest Hits, Breakout: Boost and Asteroids: Gunner, and I look forward to expanding upon this success in the EMEA market.”
