Finalists for the event are revealed this week, with retailers, publishers, hardware manufacturers, distributors, media outfits and service companies all represented across the 20 categories.
Electronic Arts has claimed seven finalist slots, closely followed by Sony with six, then Activision/Lucas and THQ with four each and Nintendo, Microsoft, VU Games, Take 2/Rockstar, SCi, GAME and Gamestation on three.
But it is not just the big names that are challenging for honours, with this year’s event featuring everything from Independent Retailer of the Year to Most Improved Company and Unsung Hero.
“This is the only event that covers the entire interactive entertainment community here in the UK and it recognises excellence through all levels of the business,” said MCV publisher and Intent Media managing director Stuart Dinsey.
“Looking at this year’s set of finalists, it is good to be reminded of the success that companies of all sizes have achieved throughout the past 12 months.
“Given the competition out there, becoming a finalist is in itself a huge achievement and we congratulate everyone that has made it this far.”
Over 500 senior industry executives are expected to attend the event, which takes place on Thursday April 7th at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London. This will include every major retail buyer and supplier within the UK market.
Sponsors for the evening include Gizmondo, which will be exclusively trialling its new handheld entertainment system, plus Nvidia, Electronic Arts, Nokia N-Gage, Gem, Department X, ELSPA and DocData.
