Awfully familiar sounding TV show quite similar to L.A. Noire

Slashfilm are reporting that a new TV show entitled L.A. Noir is in the works on TNT, with extreme similarities to L.A. Noire the game.

Set in 1940s and 1950s Los Angeles, the TV show will focus on the clashes between organised crime under the hand of Mickey Cohen (who also featured in L.A. Noire the game) and the LAPD of the era, and is based on the book L.A. Noire: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City.

The pilot is being written and directed by Frank Darabont, (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Frankenstein), and if it is picked up, would follow suit of a spate of recent period piece TV shows.

While the L.A. Noire trademark as still listed as active, the 'e' was only added to the videogame from Team Bondi during development. A lapsed trademark for L.A. Noir which expired in 2005 could have been owned by Team Bondi or Rockstar Games.

Regardless, it will be very interesting to see if the series, which boasts some talented backing, can bring the era to life in a new medium. Perhaps more interesting will be to see if the TV show is influenced by the videogame in the same way it was influenced by films, books and newspapers, which would be yet another landmark coup for gaming.

Either way it is hardly a coy move to name the series L.A. Noir, so fans will likely be keeping their eyes open for links.
