Battlefield celebrates twin success

EA’s Battlefield brand has notched up two notable achievement overnight marking a notable victory for both free-to-play gaming and digital only releases.

First off, online free-to-play cel-shaded PC title Battlefield Heroes has welcomed its one millionth player less than a month after it was first released.

The team is really proud to have hit 1m registrations at this early stage,” Battlefield Heroes’ general manager Ben Cousins stated.

Creating a character and gameplay experience that is totally yours is what sets this game apart – your hero can be anything from a bazooka-toting pirate, a grenade-throwing ninja or even a mime assassin.”

More good news for the brand has come in the shape of the successful Battlefield 1943 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Despite some early technical problems that rendered the Xbox 360 version more-or-less unplayable for many players for the first few days, owners of Microsoft’s console have subsequently gone on to slaughter 43m of their virtual chums, unlocking a new map in the process.
