Best Buy planning up to 150 UK stores

Ahead of the opening of its debut UK store in Thurrock this Friday, Best Buy has said that it is targeting between 60-150 outlets in the country.

“This is a blank sheet of paper,” chief executive Scott Wheway told The Wall Street Journal. “It will be different. It will take a period of time, but we are in for the long haul. It doesn't happen overnight.”

In addition, the retailer added that it won’t begin retailing online in the UK until some time this autumn.

“The website is going to go transactional in autumn,” head of computing René Wright told MCV’s sister site PCR.

“We’re really keen to make sure we get the stores right first and the brand message and the connected store we want to give those customers – make sure we get that right first and then the online space will become transactional.”
