Bethesda confirms id Software layoffs

Doom and Rage developer id Software has laid off some members of staff from its Dallas studio but is looking for more.

Parent publisher Bethesda Softworks said the employees were let go as part of the developer’s routine internal evaluations.

However, the developer is still hiring for a senior environment artist, senior gameplay programmer and senior level designer on the ZeniMax website. ZeniMax is Bethesda’s parent company.

"As part of its standard business practice, id regularly evaluates staffing to ensure it has a workforce that meets the needs of the studio,” Bethesda’s VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines told Gamasutra. As part of that process, some id employees were recently let go.

id is still recruiting and hiring qualified developers, and development work on future id titles continues unabated.”

id’s most recent game, Rage, arrived in October last year. Rage debuted at No.2 in the UK charts behind EA’s FIFA 12.

The studio is currently working on Doom 4.
