Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been abandoned – rumour

The future of Beyond Good & Evil 2 looks even more uncertain today following fresh rumours of its demise.

Speaking on a GameSpot video ahead Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, one journalist admitted that he had been informed that the game had been abandoned, although the inability to corroborate the claim with other sources prevented the publication of the story.

What I heard was – and I wasn’t able to confirm this… it didn’t become a full news story as I couldn’t corroborate it enough to get it out there – but I’ve been told its been abandoned,” he said. The studio has moved on, the key people from that studio that were making it have moved on to other projects outside of Ubisoft. Like I said, I might be wrong, but I have heard it’s gone.”

Furthermore, a story published yesterday on IGN – the URL for which now leads to a 404 – claimed that the game’s chief developer Michel Ancel has himself abandoned” the project.

Senior VP of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, Tony Key, has told IGN that Michel Ancel has abandoned development on Beyond Good & Evil 2,” a report pulled by Game Rant prior to the disappearance of the IGN story says.

Not only has Michel Ancel left the studio working on the game, but it seems as though Beyond Good & Evil 2 has halted development altogether at this point. As Key explained when asked for an update on the title, ‘There’s just nothing to talk about right now. We don’t really have anything to say.’”

Beyond Good & Evil 2, a sequel to the 2003 original, was announced in 2008. Ancel said in 2013 that development had shifted to PS4 and Xbox One, although his own status at Ubisoft was thrown into doubt last year when he announced the formation of his own studio and new game Wild – although it was insisted that he was still working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 at Ubisoft.
