It was the week Take That reformed.
The week a new Harry Potter movie premiered.
But the real winner in the entertainment war? It was a video game.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops led a software market boom last week. Day one sales stood at 1.4m units, generating £58m in revenue – making it the biggest entertainment launch ever.

Even the ‘fastest selling album of the decade’, Take That’s Progress, only managed 235,000 units in its first day on Monday this week, around 2m in revenue.

In total, Black Ops made over £80m last week, and sold in excess of 2m units in five days – helping the High Street towards its biggest week for games ever: £113m was made, and 3.3m games were sold.

Plus, last week’s Black Ops boom is helping close the gap on a software market decline. The release of the game has closed the year-on-year software market gap to just five per cent.
