Black Ops III holds the top spot in Japan

The PS4 SKU of Call of Duty: Black Ops III is still No.1 in Japan.

Sales of Activison’s shooter – published in the region by Sony – were down 63 per cent week-on-week, according to data provided by Famitsu.

The PlayStation 3 SKU falls from third place to No.8 as sales halved week-on-week.

A number of new titles hit Japanese shelves this week. The highest performing was Bandai Namco’s 3DS title Project X Zone 2, which shifted 43,715 units. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate debuts in third place with 39,858 units sold in its first week.

And EA’s new Need for Speed game debuts in fifth place, shifting 16,157 units.

Over in the hardware charts, it’s the PlayStation 4 that’s still the best-performing. In spite of Black Ops III still selling well, and the launches of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Need for Speed, sales of the hardware dip 17 per cent week-on-week. But sales of the New 3DS XL rose 18 per cent off the back of Project X Zone 2’s launch.
