Blizzard 'resets' next-gen MMO Titan, cuts team size by 70 per cent

The next-gen MMO from the makers of World of Warcraft is now unlikely to arrive until “2016 at the earliest”.

That’s according to VentureBeat which has word that Blizzard “has decided to push the reset button” on the game known as Titan. It has also cut its development stream from 100 people to just 30.

It is said that a recent internal review concluded that the title “needed big design and technology changes to meet the bar for quality” – a move not altogether out of the ordinary fro Blizzard.

“We’ve always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception,” Blizzard spokesperson Shon Damron said. “We’ve come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game.

“We’re using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes. Note that we haven’t announced any dates for the MMO.”

Titan – which is the game’s codename – was initially spoken of as World of Warcraft’s financial successor. Although WoW is still by far the biggest subscription MMO in the world, its numbers are dwindling. Analysts will likely not react well to Titan’s delay.
