Brink sales pass 2.5m units

UK developer Splash Damage has said that 2011 release Brink has sold in excess of 2.5m units worldwide, generating revenue of around $120-140m.

However, the success of the title has taught the studio one other lesson – developers don’t see all of that cash.

And that’s the reason, according to CEO Paul Wedgwood, why Splash Damage has lifted the lid on its new publishing venture WarChest.

As an independent video game developer, we don’t earn that kind of revenue, as we’re not the publisher of the title,” he told Gamasutra.

We could see there was the potential to serve our fans content directly, and while we don’t want to take anything away from what Splash Damage does, we wanted a vehicle that we can dedicate exclusively to that pursuit.
"It’s really important to us that our games – the games that come from Warchest – should be free.”
