‘Broke’ Hotline Miami dev offers helping hand to pirates

The creator of the superb indie hit Hotline Miami has offered technical support to those who pirate his game.

I don’t really want people to pirate Hotline Miami, but I understand if they do,” Jonatan Soderstrom said on Twitter. I’ve been broke the last couple of months. It sucks.

Yet despite his current financial plight, Soderstorm has said that it is also important for him that players of the pirated version get to play the game as it was intended in its most up to date form, adding: "I definitely want people to experience the game the way it’s meant to be experienced. No matter how they got a hold of it."

He even took to the torrent’s page on The Pirate Bay offering advice with those struggling with the early build’s bugs and asking that the patched version of the title become available on the site as soon as possible.

This isn’t the first time that a developer has worked with The Pirate Bay to get the piracy community on side.

Gamasutra reports that the creator of McPixel took to The Pirate Bay to thank people for showing interest in his game. This led to the site promoting the game on a pay-what-you-like basis. As well as making come cash, the game also went on to successfully campaign for a release on Steam Greenlight.
