BT Sport has signed a deal to broadcast EA's global FIFA 17 competitive gaming events in the UK. The series of eSports events will see the best FIFA 17 players from around the world compete against each other to become the ultimate champion, and BT Sports customers will have a front row seat to the action.
The move will significantly increase public awareness of competitive gaming, and is arguably the most significant deal that's ever been made in the UK concerning eSports broadcasting.
BT Sport will broadcast the remaining four EA FIFA Majors, including the Season Two North American Regional Final in Vancouver on April 8th, Season Two Asia-Pacific Regional Final in Singapore on April 22nd, Season Two European Regional Final in Madrid on May 6th, and the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Championship Final in Berlin on May 20th and May 21st.
Head of BT Sport Simon Green commented: “This is yet another example of live innovation from BT Sport. Competitive interactive football gaming is a rapidly growing industry and I’m delighted that BT Sport is now able to showcase it for the first time ever in the UK.”
Todd Sitrin, senior vice president and general manager of EA's competitive gaming division added: “There’s a profound opportunity for competitive gaming to achieve mainstream success and the key to accomplishing this is accessibility. We’re thrilled to be partnering with BT Sport to make our exciting competitions for EA SPORTS FIFA, the most popular video game in the UK, available across the nation as we move the industry forward.”
