Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to introduce microtransactions

Activision will for the first time offer in-game purchases in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Starting tomorrow, what are being called Micro Items will be available that Activision’s Dan Amrich describes as either personal customizations or nice little luxuries”, none of which affect gameplay” and are simply small, specific ways to enhance your online experience”.

Personalisation Packs will cost 160 Microsoft Points a pop and offer unique weapon camos, three targeting reticules and a Calling Card. Also on offer is the Extra Slots Pack which, as the name suggests, offers ten additional Create-a-Class slots and a bump to media storage space.

Also on sale will be Flags of the World Calling Card Packs for 80 MSP each. Multiplayer zombie map Nuketown 2025 will also be available as a standalone purchase for 400 MSP.

The content will be released on PS3 and PC at a later date.

At the end of the day, all of these items are completely optional, and were created for players who’ve asked for more customization options,” Amrich added.

If that’s not you, that’s fine; everybody gets Nuketown 2025 for free, so definitely take advantage of that.”
