Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward is ‘bigger than it has ever been’

The development team behind Call of Duty Ghosts has more staff than ever, despite losing almost 50 members of staff after a 2010 scandal.

The team that created the Call of Duty and Modern Warfare brands almost collapsed following a dispute with its parent company Activision. Infinity Ward’s founders were fired and many senior staff members walked out, forcing the studio to team-up with another developer – Sledgehammer Games – in order to finish Modern Warfare 3.

Working with Sledgehammer allowed us to re-grow the studio to full capacity at a pace that made sense to us,” said Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin.

So it wasn’t a situation where we went out and said ‘we need 50 more guys, go out there on the street and hire them.’ We were actually able to say no to people. We are now a fully-fledged team. We are actually bigger than we have ever been before.”

Infinity Ward hired a number of big names from Hollywood, including CG artists that worked on major movies such as Beowulf. And Rubin says the studio wants to prove itself once again.

I think we have something to prove on every game,” answers Rubin.

I started at Infinity Ward back on Call of Duty 2. And that feeling of ‘what we did last was not good enough. We need to do better’ has been there every game that I’ve been a part of.”
