Call of Duty drops Modern Warfare moniker; new game titled Call of Duty: Ghosts

A couple of leaks appear to confirm that the next Call of Duty game from Infinity Ward will be called Call of Duty: Ghosts, dropping the Modern Warfare moniker.

This will be the first game by Infinity Ward since Call of Duty 4 in 2007 to not carry the Modern Warfare name.

The leaks come courtesy of retailers Tesco, which has uploaded the game’s provisional box art; and Target, which has an ad out promoting preorders for the game.

The box art appears to show Ghost, a character featured in Modern Warfare 2. The new game could well feature a branching story focussed around Ghost.

Tesco lists the game for 31st December, 2013 release, but that’s probably a placeholder. Call of Duty games usually release in early-to-mid November.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is expected to arrive on PC as well as current and next-gen consoles.
