Capcom denies Apple Smurfs rift

Capcom Interactive has announced that it has not been in a dispute with Apple over Smurfs’ Village on iPhone.

Previous reports on Pocket Gamer stated that Apple had strong words with Capcom because iPhone users had complained after paying for in-game items accidentally. The site has now received a statement sent by Capcom.

“We are in frequent communication with Apple, and at no point have they expressed any displeasure to any representatives of Capcom Mobile in regards to our handling of in-app purchases within Smurfs’ Village,” said a Capcom spokesperson.

Smurfs’ Village was released on iPhone last year by Capcom Interactive – the publisher’s mobile arm. It is free to play but allows users to pay for in-game items which range from £2.99 to £59.99.

Users must enter a password to purchase content but Apple is debating whether to decrease the time between account checks. Users who buy a string of purchases are currently asked to re-enter their password every 15 minutes.

Capcom previously told MCV about the importance of its ‘freemium’ payment model in iPhone games.
