Capcom sues Koei Tecmo over patent infringements

Capcom is suing fellow Japanese publisher Koei Tecmo for patent infringements that allegedly involve 50 of the latter firm’s titles.

Siliconera translates a report from Japanese publication Sankei, which claims Capcom is seeking around $9.43m in damages. The amount is equivalent to a license fee of around 10 per cent of what the company claims Koei Tecmo has profited from its infringement.

Specific patent infringement claims include allowing players in a new game to import or unlock content from an older title, as well as the use of a controller vibration to alert players of nearby enemies.

The report also mentions that Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends and more than four dozen other titles are at the heart of the lawsuit.

No official statement on the matter has been made by either party thus far.
