Cartoon Network to air Angry Birds animated series in India

Cartoon Network has partnered with Rovio to bring the Angry Birds animated series – Angry Birds Toons, to India.

We’re delighted to introduce the Angry Birds and Bad Piggies characters and their world in more detail to our Indian fans. We combine the look and feel of cartoon classics with modern twists to slowly reveal a vast back story,” said Nick Dorra, head of animation at Rovio.

The 52-episode series will premiere on 16th March and will air every Saturday morning.

The Angry Birds games are a global phenomenon with kids and adults and we look forward to partnering with Rovio Entertainment as the broadcast partner for Angry Birds Toons animated series,” Turner International India’s Krishna Desai said.

Rovio has been going all-out in expanding the Angry Birds franchise beyond the smartphone game it originally started out as. Aside from films, toys and other licensing and merchandising, the Angry Birds games have also moved to other platforms. After the Xbox 360 and PS3, the series debuted on Steam recently with Angry Birds Space.

The Angry Birds games are also sold at retail in India as part of Rovio’s partnership with Milestone Interactive.
