CEO Bruner steps down from Telltale

The co-founder and chief executive of Telltale games has left the company.

Kotaku got hold of an internal memo sent around the developer confirming the news.

“Today I am writing to let you know that I’ll be stepping away from my position as CEO of Telltale,” Kevin Bruner said. “We’ve grown aggressively since Telltale’s inception, and now Telltale is bigger than I ever dreamed it would be.

“There are many possible futures for Telltale, and all of them are exciting and uniquely challenging. The time has come to pass the reins to someone that can better drive Telltale to the next level and realize all the potential that is here.”

Bruner also confirmed that he will remain on the board of directors, with fellow co-founder Dan Connors stepping up to the CEO role.

Official word from Telltale later clarified: “Kevin has led Telltale over the past couple of years after he stepped into the CEO role for co-founder Dan Connors in 2015. With Kevin departing, Telltale is fortunate to have Dan here to step back seamlessly into the CEO role.”

The last few years have been one of rapid growth for the company. Lionsgate made what was described as a significant investment in the company in 2015.

"Our partnership with Kevin Bruner and his team at Telltale continues to accelerate our momentum in the game space," Lionsgate president of interactive ventures and games Peter Levin said at the time.

"The convergence between premium filmed entertainment brands and original game properties is a natural direction in which to continue diversifying our content business, and Telltale is the perfect partner with whom to explore this dynamic area of growth."

Telltale also welcomed EA veteran John Riccitiello onto its board at the same time.

Having produced eight titles in the four years between 2005 and 2008, in the following eight years Telltale has pumped out 21 games. It now routinely works on massive IP such as Batman, Minecraft, Game of Thrones and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
