Codemasters announces Dirt Rally, already available on Steam

Surprise! Codemasters has not only announced a new game in the Dirt series, but has actually already released it.

Dirt Rally is a PC-only game and is available right now on Steam Early Access for 24.99. The price will increase over time, however.

The publisher says the racer features a brand new, simulation-focused physics engine providing for a high difficulty level. Right now the game offers 36 stages, spread across three locations, and 17 cars.

Keeping in line with the simulation theme, the rewind feature has been scrapped and damage made persistent. Players will have some time to repair some things between stages, but trash your car in the first trace and you’re going to be carrying the consequences of that with you for a while.

Codemasters has also promised that there won’t be any in-game purchases and that all content made available post-release will be free to those who’ve paid up front for the title.

It’s really important to us that we make Dirt Rally the best game it can be and we can only do that with your help,” the game’s Steam page said. Steam Early Access is the perfect place for us to do that. We believe that Dirt Rally is the game many of our fans want and right now, our plan is to develop Dirt Rally with community feedback and get that experience absolutely right.”
