Sebastian James, group CEO of Dixons Retail, has told Radio 5 Live this morning that the firm hopes to offer Comet staff around 2,000 jobs over Christmas.
Comet, which went into administration last week,is currently still trading, but its 7,000 employees all risk losing their jobs before the holidays.
James commented:"Comet has been a been a noble competitor for a long time. We’re delighted to be able to offer jobs to some Comet staff this Christmas, and we hope as many people as possible can have a chance to be a part of our family.
"We’re taking on, this Christmas, about 3,000 people in all, including around about 2,000 staff for stores. We’ll see how that pans out, but we hope to keep some people in the long term."
