Confirmed: Forza Horizon hits retail this year

Fans may still playing last year’s title, but Microsoft has announced a new Forza game will come this year.

Entitled Forza Horizon, the game will be a ‘new take’ on the franchise and is developed by UK studio Playground Games.

Little else is known about the title, although MCV can reveal it will be a retail game.

The Forza Motorsport series is created by Turn 10, and was previously a bi-annual series. Forza 4 was the UK’s best selling racer last year according to GfK Chart-Track.

The big thing is we are trying to engage customers towards that vision, turning gamers to car lover and car lovers to gamers,” Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenawalt told MCV at last week’s Spring Showcase.

Xbox’s global VP of marketing Steve Beinner added that Forza has become annual because of the strength of the franchise and the team being able to say we want to deliver the content that gamers want.”

Forza’s switch to a UK development studio should also aid the game in the European territories, says Xbox European chief Chris Lewis. There is a high appetite for the racing genre here in the UK, and I think that is right across Europe. Forza Horizon is a very exciting addition and I am confident it is going to perform very well right across Europe.”

Microsoft has also announced additional game add-ons for Forza Motorsport 4, including a Porsche add-on pack with 30 new cars.
