Darksiders III confirmed by THQ Nordic

Hot on the heels of a retailer leak, THQ Nordic has now officially confirmed that a third Darksiders game is in the works.

The first Darksiders game was released back in 2010 by the now defunct old THQ. It saw players assume the role of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It became a bit of a cult hit, and was followed by a sequel two years later.

However, following the demise of THQ the brand was snapped up by Nordic Games in 2013. The company immediately began talking about plans for a possible third outing, but insisted it would take its time so as to get the game right. It then confirmed that it definitely intended to press ahead with a new title in 2015.

The star of the new game is Fury who is on a quest to dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins, a trip that will take her from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell” and demand that she prove she is the most powerful of the Horsemen.

Her preferred tools are whips and magic. The game itself utilises what sounds like an open-world set in an Earth battered by war and decay.

As promised, we have taken our time to ensure that this next Darksiders will be everything action-adventure gamers and especially Darksiders loyalists could dream of and more,” THQ Nordic co-founder Lars Wingefors said.

Director of business and product development Reinhard Pollice added: The Gunfire team brings an intimate involvement with every aspect of the Darksiders franchise since its inception.

There is simply no team better qualified to create Darksiders III, beginning with our unpredictable and enigmatic hero Fury – a mage who is considered the most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.”
