The creator of famed PC zombie game DayZ says it could yet make its console debut before the end of the year.

"We've toyed around what to do with the console side of things," Dean Hall told Eurogamer. “We have to get the core aspects of the game finished before we commit to doing anything. Otherwise you make a big announcement and then you wait for six or 12 months.

Hall also reckons that the already incredibly successful PC version – which currently sells between 3,000 and 4,000 copies a day and is approaching 2.5m total sales – should be ‘feature complete’ by the end of 2014, despite the decision to shift to a brand new game engine that offers “substantial performance improvements”.

Added Hall: "There will always be people who won't be happy with it, who say it needs dinosaurs or whatever. But I think it will be at the point where it's like, okay, we need to polish this.”

Perhaps more surprising is Hall’s admission that he may be on the look out for a publishing partner for his next game, a single player tycoon title for PC and Mac that could be out early next year.

Hall has previously said that the publisher-free success of DayZ was a “shots fired moment” for the traditional publishing model, and that the Steam model has eroded the need for publishers entirely.

"I guess I'm considering a strategic investment," he said of his still un-named new studio. "Whether there's a publisher out there who can help me to deliver on the vision I have for multiplayer gaming.

“My plan is to develop many games concurrently with the idea of developing risky games at a reasonably low cost to prototype them. Let's say you develop three concurrently. One of them might break even. One of them might be a complete and utter failure and one of them might be a big success. That's the recipe I want to follow: going for risky, multiplayer, out there titles."
