Dead Island reception thrills Deep Silver

Publisher Deep Silver has expressed its delight at the frenzy of activity that greeted the release of its new trailer for Dead Island last week.

In the time that has followed the game’s Facebook page has attracted over 100,000 fans while the trailer itself has had over 2.7m hits on YouTube.

At one point the game was also a trending topic on Twitter, with names such as Simon Pegg, Ice-T, Hideo Kojima and Graham Linehan praising the short.

The game also received plenty of attention from the mainstream press, with features appearing on the likes of The LA Times, CBS and The New York Post.

The trailer attracted its fair share of controversy, too, with both MCV and The Guardian asking whether the depiction of the death of a young girl is suitable marketing material.

We knew that we had something very unique with this trailer and we are very pleased by the positive feedback we received to the reveal of Dead Island and to its trailer," Deep Silver’s international marketing director Georg Larch stated.

The trailer conveys the mood that the player will experience when their in-game character arrives on the island and suddenly this tropical holiday paradise turns into hell.”

The game is due out on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later this year.
