Deering to retire

The man best known for successfully launching the PlayStation brand in Europe is leaving the company to pursue personal opportunities in the US where his family now lives. He was founding president of SCEE in 1995, moving over to Sony Europe last year.

He will be replaced by Fujio Nishida who currently serves as EVP, Corporate Executive in charge of Electronics Marketing at Sony Corporation in Tokyo.

“Chris Deering has made brilliant contributions to Sony Corporation throughout his career as president of Sony Europe, President and later Chairman of SCEE and as a senior executive at Sony Pictures,” said Sir Howard Stringer, chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation.

“The company will long benefit from all the initiatives he has put in place. He has earned our respect, our admiration and our gratitude and we wish him continued success as he moves on in his career.”
