A new £36.2m ring road in Derby has been named Lara Croft Way.
Over 27,000 people took part in a vote to name the new route between Osmaston Road and Burton Road.
The name pays tribute to original Tomb Raider developer Core Design, which was based in Derby. Lara Croft’s creator, Toby Gard, devised the character before the PSone game’s release in 1996.
Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transportation, said: "Despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89 per cent for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore.
"She was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city.”
Other roads named after famous icons include Brian Clough Way and Nightingale Road, named after nurse Florence Nightingale.
