Details emerge on GAME, 3-day event at Macquarie University

Mac quarie University's Interactive Media Institute and Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre have announced details on GAME, its upcoming 3-day videogames event.

The event will consist of a public debate about videogame politics and policy, an academic conference and a games festival, and promises an 'exploration and celebration of this exciting new area of research, production and collaboration.'

The 'Politics of Play' free public debate about gaming content and its impact on society, will take place on 27th October. Speakers confirmed so far include Paul Hunt (former deputy-director of the Office of Film and Literature Classification), Associate Professor Dr Jeff Brand (Bond University), Dr John Martino (Victoria University) and Dr Peter Chen (University of Sydney).

The academic conference will take place on 28th October, and cost AUD$120 (or AUD$50 for students). This multidisciplinary conference will focus on the key developments in contemporary research around gaming, as well as feature a 'Future of Games' panel to discuss mobile cultures, social gaming, augmented reality and more.

Keynote speakers for the academic conference will be Dr Ian Bogost (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Espen Aarseth (IT University of Copenhagen).

On the 29th October, the final day will be a games festival showcasing design projects of various types as well as hosting information sessions on educational videogames, game design careers and cyber safety.

GAME will run from 27th-29th October at Macquarie University in North Ryde, New South Wales.
