Japanese publisher Konami has reported a 77.3 per cent increase in net income to ¥17,046m for the nine months ending December 31st 2011.
Net revenues for the period grew 3.3 per cent to ¥194,522m while operating income climbed 86 per cent to ¥30,921m.
Digital entertainment revenues in isolation grew 1.6 per cent to ¥99,464m and operating income increased by 87.4 per cent to ¥24,289.
It was the success of social gaming that drove the numbers. Konami’s social games now enjoy a user base in excess of 15m. The most successful title was Dragon Collection, which now has over 5m members.
In the traditional games front, Metal Gear Solid celebrated a strong year while there was also success from Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh trading card business.
