Direct2Drive offers digital rentals

Digital download website Direct2Drive has introduced a new game rental service.

Consumers can pay $5 to access five hours worth of game time from a select range of titles – including Konami’s Silent Hill Homecoming, Codemasters’ Race Driver Grid and Dtp’s Divinity II.

If users decide to purchase a full game after renting then their $5 will be deducted from the overall price.

IGN’s Direct2Drive is one of the only online PC game retailers that allows buyers to rent games digitally. Cloud gaming service OnLive currently charges users around $5 to rent a game for three days or $7 for five days.

A statement on the Direct2Drive blog read: “Our rental selection will grow in time but for now feel free to take a game or two out for a spin.”
