Download plan for Coders

August 12th by Johnny Minkley

Codemasters revealed the latest stage in its transformation this week, announcing first details of, a major new portal covering all aspects of online gaming.

The site, which launches in early September, builds on the UK publisher’s existing offering of full price downloads, and will boast 1,000 free and pay-for-play games, including browser, on-demand, subscription and micro-transaction titles.

Content deals have been struck with RealNetworks, Macrovision/Trymedia and Metaboli amongst others.

“We’re on the cusp of an explosion in the casual games market,” Codemasters’ head of Internet gaming Nick Pili told MCV. “We’re going to provide content for the masses.”

Codemasters is also looking into the possibility of making its full-price PC titles available for download simultaneously or ahead of the boxed release. “We’re looking at all options,” Pili confirmed.
