E3 2007: Disney reiterates commitment to gaming

The last press conference of this year’s E3 began with Graham Hopper, president of Disney Interactive Studios declaring the firm’s commitment to the industry: Video games are a long-term priority for our company. We believe that video games are at the forefront of entertainment and that our business is healthy and growing.” He went on to say that the Disney’s games sales were up 65 per cent.

D Gamer, an online community where DS players can interact around the world through a DS or PC, was then announced to the gathered crowds. The platform will be available in May next year, alongside the release of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and will be bundled with all subsequent Disney DS releases.

Turok was then given a release date of February 5th 2008 on both Xbox 360 and PS3, while a general 2008 release date was given for Spectrobes 2 on the DS.

Finally, it was announced that a new Hannah Montana-licensed music game will be available on the Wii and DS in November.

Elsewhere, it was announced that Warren Spector, the founder of Junction Point Studios, is now working with Disney on both new IP and Disney licenced games. Spector said: My first passion was always cartoons, so I’m very excited about joining the company”.
