E3 2010: Kotick eyes $3bn pre-owned market

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has told investors that the publisher wants a slice of the $3bn pre-owned games.

Speaking at the Activision E3 2010 investor conference he said: Today there’s a $3bn used game market that we do not participate in. If we look at the share of market we have, there’s a $500m opportunity for us in used games.

We want to deliver deeper DLC in games to drive persistent consumer engagement in order to provide value.

We want to partner with our retailers to allow them to provide products as usual but where we get to participate in the revenue streams.”

The comments come following similar remarks from EA’s Peter Moore, who said that EA’s Online Pass – a DLC code system that penalises pre-owned purchases – is ‘great value for money’.
