EA downplays Origin exclusivity fears

The European boss of EA has said that the publisher won’t make the digital versions of its games exclusive to its new and upcoming Origin retail portal.

Problems that led to the removal of several EA titles from Steam had caused many to conclude that EA was to promote Origin via exclusivity.

Indeed, it has already announced that certain bonus content will be exclusive to those who purchase games through the service.

However, this should not be confused for a single, over-arching strategy, European boss Jens Uwe Intat told Eurogamer.

"When we were talking about it’s best for the consumer that competition is a good thing, for the consumer also choice is a good thing," he said."Competition and choice go hand in hand. So the fact we will only distribute our own games on our own platform, I don’t see that."

EA has also stated that it hopes to sell other publisher’s titles through Origin.
