EA keeps top spot despite chart challenge

THQ’s WWE title debuts at number two and not only becomes the fourth fastest selling game of 2006 behind PES 6, FIFA ’07 and Football Manager 2007, but beats its predecessor’s launch week by 10,000 units. And Call of Duty 3 makes an impressive first week impression too, coming a close second to PES 6 as the fastest selling Xbox 360 game to date.

Big selling football titles PES 6 and FIFA ’07 continue to keep residence in the top ten at four and five respectively, with The Sims 2: Pets and GTA: Vice City Stories still going strong at six and seven.

LucasArts’ LEGO Star Wars II gets a boost after the release of the PSP version, and moves up three places to number eight. Sega’s Medieval II: Total War charges in at nine – an impressive start for a PC-only title - and Rockstar’s controversial school sim Canis Canem Edit completes the top ten at ten, down five places from last week.

Elsewhere in the charts, Nintendo’s Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue enters the chart this week at 14, while the Red Rescue version debuts at 34. Vivendi’s scary shooter F.E.A.R has also leaped up to number 20 after its release on Xbox 360.

Next week sees the release of Microsoft’s triple-A title Gears of War while Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog both hit Xbox 360 in what is sure to be another strong week for the next-generation console.
