EA: Old Republic will have ten-year lifespan

Star Wars: The Old Republic has the potential to keep running for at least ten years.

That’s according to Electronic Arts’ CFO Eric Brown, who also claims the BioWare-developed MMO won’t depend on the millions of subscribers engaged by titles such as World of Warcraft.

Speaking at the UBS Annual Media and Communications Conference in New York, he said: “Our assumptions for break-even and profitability are not seven-digit subscribers. We think we can run and operate a very successful and profitable MMO at different levels.

“The key thing here is to really perfect the product. We’re shooting for an extremely high quality game experience. We view this as a ten-year opportunity.”

The Old Republic is currently slated for a Spring 2011 release. Its quality and profitability has been questioned in recent months by both an anonymous BioWare developer and Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz during his London Games Conference keynote.
