EA Q1 report: $491m in total revenue; Origin, BF3 Premium subs grow

EA has announced its financial results for the prior quarter ending on June 30th, with reports and figures revealed for Battlefield 3 Premium, Origin, and more.

Total net revenue (non-GAAP) for the company dropped to $491m compared with $524m earned in the same quarter last year according to the financial report.

The Battlefield 3 premium service has reached 1.3m subscriptions, which CEO John Riccitiello claimed made up for the lack of SWTOR sales. EA plans to have the next Battlefield installment out sometime during FY 2014 (beginning March 31st 2013).

The company’s digital distribution service Origin had a dramatic rise in users—now up to 21m (9m of which are mobile). That’s a growth of 10m since EA reported an 11m figure less than three months ago.

Meanwhile SimCity Social is currently boasting over 10m monthly active users since its launch in June.

Digital figures for the quarter were way up in general, growing $100m year over year.

EA also announced, prior to their financial report and earnings call, that Blake Jorgensen has been named the company’s new CFO. Jorgensen previously worked as the CFO of Yahoo and Levi Strauss.

The company’s earnings call focused heavily on its plan to transition into a digital only model, also noting free-to-play and subscription services as keys moving forward.
