EA scores again with FIFA 06

It’s the third week in a row that EA has netted the top spot, with The Sims 2: Nightlife and Burnout Revenge both debuting at the top in the past two weeks. FIFA 06 becomes the fastest selling football game of all time and the fifth fastest selling game of all time, helping software units sales break the one million barrier for the first time since the release of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory in week 13 of this year.

Last week’s number one, Burnout Revenge, slips to second spot this week with Ubisoft’s Xbox-only Far Cry: Instincts debuting at number three. Sega’s PC expansion Rome: Total War – Barbarian Invasion enters the charts at number four with another debutant, Eidos’s Conflict: Global Storm claiming fifth spot.

EA’s The Sims 2: Nightlife slips from second to fourth whilst their PSP racer Burnout Legends slipping to seventh spot. THQ’s PC war strategy title Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Winter Assault slips from fourth to eighth whilst the calming of Ashes euphoria sees Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 fall six places to ninth spot. Midway’s Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks props up the rest, entering the charts at number ten in its first week.
