Another interesting snippet in EA’s
and much-discussed financial statement was the claim that new extreme-sports outing Skate outsold Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground.
CFO Warren Jensen boasted: "Despite the fact we launched on three fewer platforms, Skate outsold Tony Hawk 2 to 1."
Tony Hawk’s is one of the longest-running and most successful franchises in gaming history, having kicked off in 1999. The most recent release, Tony Hawk’s Proving Grounds, was the ninth in the series – not including spin-offs such as Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam.
Skate, however, first appeared last year, but was instantly acclaimed for its inventive twin-stick control method that did away with the fiddly button combos that have become a hallmark of the Hawk’s series.
